Tordek is a long time friend and compatriot of Aramis of Newkeep, father of Athos. He helped solve the Ettin’s Riddle, and assisted Aramis in his investigation of the catacombs beneath the Order of the Risen Star monastery. It was there that the damsel Serendipity, Aramis’ young love, was captured by a vampire and turned over to the creature’s infernal master, the demon Ulvestis.
Aramis and Tordek’s quest to save the girl led them across land and sea, and eventually saw them shipwrecked on Stone Bog Isle. They battled through swamps and ancient temples inhabited by gargoyles and mummified undead before being confronted by the green dragon Wrinestii. At this point Aramis was at the brink of madness, wracked with guilt, anger, and despair over the loss of Serendipity (not to mention the death of his loyal steed, Tristan). He was unable to best the monster in combat, and in a fit of desperation, he prostrated himself before the evil dragon and surrendered all his worldly goods unto her, hoping to pass some sort of test from the gods above.
Were it not for Tordek’s stalwart faithfulness to his friend and his stoic demeanor, Aramis would surely have been lost on the island to this day. However, like the boon companions of legend, Tordek picked Aramis up and made him soldier on. Once they were back in civilized lands, Tordek discovered a dark cyst upon Aramis’ soul – a corruption left by the fiend that had kidnapped Serendipity. Through much research and effort, they were able to discover a way to destroy the corruption within Aramis, and severely injure the demon in the process. Outraged by this, Ulvestis summoned Aramis and Tordek to it, where they did final battle before a huge sacrificial tower of stone, atop which rested the unconscious form of Serendipity. After an epic struggle, the foul beast lay smote, and Aramis was reunited with his love.
After this last harrowing adventure, the group retired to Newkeep and the surrounding area, and Aramis and Serendipity took time to raise their new son Athos. Once he left home, Aramis was content to let him rebel a little and explore the world on his own. However, Aramis became concerned when a letter arrived from Athos, saying that some friends of his had founded a kingdom in the aftermath of a failed hobgoblin invasion, and that Athos had volunteered his assistance and been appointed General of the Armies of Westvale. Worried that this position may be too much responsibility for the rebellious youth, Aramis asked his oldest friend Tordek to travel to Westvale to offer his assistance to Athos and the new barony of Westvale.
